Pied Piper Launches New Volunteer Programme-- Friends of Pied Piper --

Did you know? The Pied Piper is run largely by volunteers. Our trustees and promotional board all give their time freely, and our tight-knit team relies on volunteers too, who play a crucial role in the success of the charity. None more so than the kind people from the county who donate their time to support us.

Our new Friends programme is designed to bring together all the volunteers that support the charity on a regular or ad hoc basis, whether its event marshalling, manning the turnstiles at the rugby, baking cakes or selling raffle tickets. There are many jobs to be done particularly at the charity's flagship fundraising events.

Whether you are a long serving helper, or new to volunteering, the Friends of Pied Piper brings together all our supporters who help with the all-important logistics behind the scenes to make events happen and also help generate funds and donations. We are asking the kind folk in Gloucestershire to join our new-look community, the backbone behind our successful charity. The engine room if you like! If you give your support through doing fund raising activities with friends or with work colleagues, then Friends is for you.

Membership of Friends looks to streamline the process of communicating with the hundreds of people that help out during the year, which is no mean administrative feat. Any request for support at an event will be communicated to the total Friends community via letter, email, SMS or phone, giving all a chance to take part and help. Upon application as a member, volunteers receive a welcome goody pack that includes a spare change money box, a charity car sticker, a branded Pied Piper tee shirt and pin badge, which can be proudly worn when on duty!

As a thank you to all our Friends we will be holding two social gatherings each year. The first is planned for the day after the Gloucestershire Motor Show on Monday 13th June and is a great chance for our many supporters to meet each other especially after one of our biggest events in our fundraising diary.

How You Can Help.

Volunteering gives you the chance to do something positive to help sick and disabled children in our county. And it's a rewarding way to spend the spare time you can give.

"I love being a volunteer. You really feel part of the team. And you know that you're helping sick and disabled children in the local community".
Helen, volunteer since March 2013.
"Giving a few hours every week to help Pied Piper is a really special way to spend my spare time."
Keith, volunteer since January 2013.

How you can help;

Interested in volunteering? Here are some examples of the opportunities we can offer. Please Contact us to get involved!

  • Be a Pied Piper Champion

You'll attend Event Calendarevents and talk to visitors about Pied Piper. You will be required to collect their details, for example email address, so that we can contact them about attending future events.

Or you could help promote Pied Piper in public places, such as supermarkets and shopping centres - with a mini stand and leaflets.

We will brief you with the details you need to talk about the charity. You'll be a people-person and able to get to our events and locations independently.

  • Be a Collection Can Co-ordinator

Our collection tins are in restaurants, pubs, filling stations, offices, retail shops and many other places - raising thousands of pounds for us each year! We need people to help us collect full tins and replace them with new ones.

You will be responsible for a list of locations. When the tins are full, the proprietor will call you - you'll collect the full tin, leave an empty one and deliver the full tin to Pied Piper's office.

You'll need your own transport and we'll need to ask you for a reference.

  • Be a Marshall

We run cycling, walking & swimming weekend events which are all vital ways to raise funds. We need volunteers to marshall people along the route or help poolside at our swimming events.

We'll brief you fully ahead of the event and you'll need your own transport to get there.

  • Be an Event Organiser

You could run your own event in aid of Pied Piper - such as a coffee morning, afternoon tea, fashion show or even do a sponsored event.

We can help you with fundraising tips - see our Event CalendarEvent Calendar

  • Be a Bucketeer!

Sometimes Pied Piper is the chosen charity at events - such as football and rugby matches - where we need volunteers to stand with buckets to collect donations. It's our chance to raise funds and awareness of the charity.

You'll need your own transport and we'll need to ask you for a reference.

  • Be a Raffler

Raffles are an important way for us to raise money. So we need people to help sell tickets.

We'll simply need to ask you for a reference.

  • Be a Crafty Contributor

We need volunteers to knit items for children on the wards, such as blankets and tiny baby clothes. We also need volunteers to donate dolls and more volunteers to clean the dolls and knit them outfits for us to sell in our Pied Piper shop and at other events.

Maybe you could organise a dolly collection at your local school or brownies group.

If you're green fingered, you could grow plants for our Spring Garden event. We always need volunteers to help us manage and organise these plant sales too.
