Pied Piper Launches New Volunteer Programme-- Friends of Pied Piper --

Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of any charity and none more so than the kind people from the county who donate their time to support Gloucestershire's children's charity, the Pied Piper Appeal.

The new Friends programme, as it has been branded, has been designed to bring together all the volunteers that support the charity on a regular or ad hoc basis, whether its event marshalling, manning the turnstiles at the rugby, baking cakes or selling raffle tickets. There are many jobs to be done particularly at the charity's flagship fundraising events.

Commenting on the new initiative, chairman Nick Broady said: "Whether you are a long serving helper, or new to volunteering the Friends of Pied Piper brings together all our supporters who help with the all-important logistics behind the scenes to make events happen and also help generate funds and donations."

"If your are already a supporter or looking to get involved in charity work we are giving a big shout out and asking the kind folk in Gloucestershire to join our new-look community, the backbone behind our successful charity. The engine room if you like! If you give your support through doing fund raising activities with friends or with work colleagues, then Friends is for you."

Membership of Friends looks to streamline the process of communicating with the hundreds of people that help out during the year, which is no mean administrative feat. Any request for support at an event will be communicated to the total Friends community via letter, email, SMS or phone, giving all a chance to take part and help. Upon application as a member, volunteers receive a welcome goody pack that includes a spare change money box, a charity car sticker, a branded Pied Piper tee shirt and pin badge, which can be proudly worn when on duty!

Fundraising manager Wendy Fabian added: "As a thank you to all our Friends we will be holding two social gatherings each year. The first is planned for the day after the Gloucestershire Motor Show on Monday 13th June and is a great chance for our many supporters to meet each other especially after one of our biggest events in our fundraising diary."

All existing and new volunteers can request their application pack by calling 0300 422 6119 or emailing the office@piedpiperappeal.co.uk, or downloading it from the website.
